104 West Partner Receices Top Honors For Volunteer Work With The March Of Dimes

Kathryn Marshall Recognized for Contribution to Organization’s Prematurity Campaign

DENVER, Colo., Feb. 4, 2008 – 104 West Partners, a strategic communications firm specializing in innovative technology companies, today announced that Kathryn Marshall, partner and chief operations officer, was recognized by the March of Dimes Colorado Chapter for volunteer excellence. Marshall was selected from a group of more than 1,000 Colorado volunteers and recognized for her achievements as a committee member as well as her work to increase awareness and support for prematurity education. Marshall played an active role in coordinating publicity efforts for the 2007 Prematurity Awareness Month campaign. Premature birth remains the number-one killer of newborn babies in America where more than half a million American babies are born prematurely each year. In an average week in Colorado, eight babies die before their first birthday from prematurity-related issues.

After delivering her own daughter, Jordan, nine weeks early in 2005, Marshall has served as an advocate for the March of Dimes, devoting her time to the organization as a volunteer and serving as a spokesperson on prematurity. The March of Dimes Colorado Chapter recognized Marshall at its 2007 volunteer and sponsor awards celebration held at the governor’s mansion. Marshall and additional award winners were nominated and selected by fellow volunteers and March of Dimes board and staff members.

“I think it is remarkable to receive an award for something you love to do and are so very passionate about,” said Kathryn Marshall, partner and chief operations officer at 104 West Partners. “The March of Dimes played a major role in saving the life of my daughter, Jordan, who was born weighing just three pounds, six ounces. Had it not been for the March of Dimes, which has helped give modern medicine the knowledge that exists to treat babies born too soon, Jordan probably would not be here today. For that,my husband and I are eternally grateful to this organization.”

In addition to her premature birth, Jordan also suffered a stroke in-utero which has left her with a mild case of cerebral palsy. Jordan is now approaching her third birthday and lives today not only a preemie survivor but also a pediatric stroke survivor thanks to the March of Dimes research and medications administered during her first few weeks that helped save her life.

Funding more than $1.5 million in healthy-baby programs in Colorado alone, the March of Dimes is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
